Nativity Sets for Kids

nativity sets for kids

One of my favorite things to collect are Nativity sets. I have always loved displaying them around my home at Christmas time. But as I got married and had children, I found out quickly that my kids loved them as much as I did and wanted to play with them all the time! I came home one day to find the shepherd’s head completely broken off in my favorite Nativity set of all! I realized that I needed some Nativity sets for kids that could easily be played with. My kids needed their own set!

As my kids have gotten older, there are more and more Nativity sets available for kids. And I wanted to share with you some of the best Nativity sets for toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary-age kids. Maybe you will find a Nativity set you can buy now for your kids so they can play with them and learn about the birth of Jesus!

Fisher-Price Little People Nativity

Probably the most popular of all Nativity sets for kids is the Fisher-Price Nativity. There are several different versions of the Little People Nativity, some have more people than others. My favorite set you can find on Amazon or Christian Book.

Plush Nativity Set

I found this set last year at Hobby Lobby and love it! I bought it half off so I decided to get 2 of them to display on the children’s ministry hallway at church! I placed them under our Christmas trees and the kids loved to stop by and play with them. And this set is just too cute! I could not find these on the Hobby Lobby website, but maybe they are still in stores.

Nativity Story Magnets

Kids love magnets and this set will go great on your fridge! They can sit on the kitchen floor and play with these magnets on your fridge. I bought a set of these to go on my children’s hallway at church. We have a metal door that leads to the outside so I plan to place them on this door and as kids come and go, they can play with them! I found this set on Amazon.

Nativity Blocks

Kids love blocks and they will love these Nativity blocks that have pictures of the Nativity characters on each one. They can easily move these around and have fun playing with them. I have ordered a set from Oriental Trading to display on the kids hall and also for them to play with on Sundays at church in the classrooms.

Nesting Nativity Playset

This cute set from Oriental Trading includes Joseph, Mary, shepherd, angel, and baby Jesus! Kids can twist the dolls and find the next Nativity doll inside!

The Christmas Star from Afar

This is a fun activity that includes a hardback book, wooden Nativity set, and a wooden star. You will set up the Nativity scene somewhere in your home and will read the book with your kids. Every day in Advent, you will hide the wooden star and your kids have to find it. When they find it, they will move the three wisemen next to it. On Christmas morning, kids will find the wooden star with the rest of the Nativity scene where baby Jesus is! I bought this book from our local toy store, but this set is sold by Star Kids Company. I plan to use this book and Nativity set with our church preschool. Every day while they are in school in December, they will search for the star and move the wisemen to its location. On their last day of school, they will find the wooden star over baby Jesus!

Melissa & Doug Nativity

I have always loved Melissa & Doug toys for my own kids! I wish I had this set when my kids were younger. This Nativity set can be set up inside the box that it comes in! It includes a stable and all the characters. Such a fun toy for kids to learn about Jesus’ birth.

Peanuts Nativity Set

My favorite kids Christmas movie is A Charlie Brown Christmas. I love the part where Linus tells Charlie that Christmas is all about Jesus! I found this set on Amazon that includes Charlie, Lucy, Sally, Peppermint Patty, Snoopy, and baby Jesus!

Nativity Scene Felt Ornaments

Hang these felt ornaments on your Christmas tree! Your kids can hang these in new places on the tree each day as they play with them. I found these on Amazon and they would be great for kids!

Nativity Cones

Want a paper Nativity set? These Nativity printables can be colored and taped together into the shape of cones. I found these on Etsy. And they can be re-printed as many times as you need or for as many kids as you have!

I love to collect Nativity sets! And I think it’s so important for kids to have their own Nativity sets to play with, too. Each year, add one of these Nativity sets for kids to your collection and help your child continue to discover the greatest gift God gave to us in Jesus Christ! Or if you serve in Children’s Ministry, you can add to the collection you display in your church classrooms or hallways!
